As A Matter Of Fact, It Is Easy Being Green.

We give you a big advantage when it comes to LEED® certification.

LEED - U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)

Vulcraft is committed to being a leader in conservation, sustainability and environmental design. Toward that end, we take recycling seriously. In fact, it is essential to our process as we use electric arc furnace technology to make our steel. Unlike blast furnaces that use mined iron ore as the major feedstock, electric arc furnaces use post-consumer scrap steel. Our primary source of scrap is junked automobiles, and we recycle the equivalent of one sport utility vehicle every four seconds. No wonder Vulcraft, along with its parent company Nucor, is the foremost steel recycler in the western hemisphere and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Our efforts extend beyond recycling. The electric arc furnace has the added benefit of 67 percent fewer carbon equivalent emissions than conventional steelmaking practices. Our manufacturing plants are distributed across the country, which has significant advantages when it comes to decreasing our carbon footprint and obtaining regional material credits. And culturally, we believe environmental stewardship is an obligation that must be met by every member of our team.

It is true that over 99 percent of our joist products and 70 percent of our deck products come from recycled steel. It is also true that the recycled content of our products and lower carbon emissions of our manufacturing process make LEED certification more easily attainable. But the best reason to use our steel is that there is no compromise in quality for being environmentally responsible. It is, quite simply, the highest quality, lowest cost steel for your building.
